Built inside the grain silos

The silos on this site were part of the Wheeler-GLF grain elevator, one of the structures that made Buffalo the largest grain port in the world. They sat abandoned for decades.

Turning them into a working brewery took $2.2 million, a lot of arguing with rebar-reinforced concrete, and a second floor built inside the silos themselves. RiverWorks crews did the work alongside Abstract Architecture and Kromac Design — at first with no plumbing and no utilities on site.

What came out of it is a brewery that runs tank-to-tap to three bars inside the building, plus a fourth bar standing in the silo itself. As general manager William Casale put it, we were able to salvage these silos to create what we think is the first brewery built inside a silo in the world.
